Position Description:
The Medical Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Harris County Jail Health Care Services. The incumbent will direct all healthcare service planning, organizing and coordination in delivering medical, dental, mental health, substance use disorders, and all ancillary services in an integrated jail healthcare delivery system. This position is not civil service protected.

-Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school and appropriate Residency Training in fields such as Family medicine or Internal medicine or Emergency medicine or General Surgery
-Possession of a Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Medical Management, Health Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related health professional or business management field, or 10 years' of Public health experience in a Large Correctional Environment; and
-Five (5) years of progressively responsible executive-level experience in health care administration or medical management, which must have included at least two years with responsibility for supervision of a wide variety of clinical, administrative, management and clinical support services in a comparable in a hospital or community clinic setting or Correctional Health Care Setting

Additional Requirements:
-Current License to practice medicine in the state of Texas
-Current Drug Enforcement Agency Controlled Substances Registration Certificate
-CPR certification
-Knowledge of issues and problems involved in managing the administrative, fiscal, and clinical services of a large and complex multidisciplinary health care delivery system
-Knowledge of principles of personnel management and supervision of a multi-disciplinary workforce; principles, practices, and trends of organizational leadership and management as they relate to an institutional health care setting
-Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and standards pertaining to health care administration in a correctional setting and fiscal management practices
-Knowledge of cost and data management systems associated with patient care and evaluation of health care delivery systems
-Knowledge of uses and application of information technology, current trends, and developments in the field of health care administration
-Knowledge of basic principles of emergency and disaster preparedness planning
-Knowledge of a manager's responsibility for promoting equal opportunity in hiring and employee development and promotion, and for maintaining a work environment that is free of discrimination and harassment
-Ability to communicate effectively; plan, organize, direct, and evaluate health care and administrative services to meet treatment needs within an institutional setting
-Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
-Ability to evaluate the information and make recommendations based on data from management or automated systems; Analyze data and situations and take appropriate action
-Ability to Create and develop collaborative teams and execute progressive discipline; Motivate staff to accomplish common goals
-Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports
-Ability to effectively develop and implement strategies to accomplish program missions, develop staff and assess training and developmental needs and attract and recruit qualified staff
